Kiln-Formed Glass by Duncan Stewart

I create pieces of kiln-formed (fused) glass.
From my first encounter with fused glass at Glasgow School of Art, I was hooked on the discovery moment when the kiln is opened, revealing the changes that the combination of heat, gravity and time have wrought on the cut pieces of glass placed together hours earlier in the kiln.
In my work, I am inspired by shape and texture, and whilst I may try to produce a glass version of a 2D or 3D object/text, I enjoy ceding control of the finished result to the glass and kiln: once the lid is closed, all bets are off.
I work with specialist art glass which gives me a range of colours to create with. I also work with recycled glass, where the restrictions in colour palette dictate a more structural design approach.
