Old Ash Tree
Caroline Collingridge
I keep coming back to nature. Whether the medium is printmaking or painting, my subjects come from the natural world. Whether it is a tree, lichen, spirit or earth, I seem to have a need to be out there and to be part of it. I often take photographs and then use these when I’m making the artwork. I’m fascinated by the form of whatever I’m looking at and then capture perhaps the essence of it. None of the finished works is an exact copy but an impression, feeling or emotion that I have while making my artwork.
Old Ash –I felt the old ash tree bark which had turned a darker grey in colour. It had much deeper grooves and fissures as the bark had expanded in size. It was also home to more creatures within its branches and within the grooves.
