Merle Sild
Merle Sild is a Plymouth based painter working with oil paint and cold wax painting medium and watercolours. She holds a BA (Hons) in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking from Plymouth College of Art and has completed her MA in Painting in 2021.
Merle is searching for a broader context between memory and places re-visioning her own personal experiences. She is painting the stories of timeless rebirth and hopes of new life beginning even in locations of disasters and destruction, usually full of legends and history. She considers her art to be a tell-tale, looking for emotional content.
Painting in abstract or semi-abstract ways gives her more freedom, though she is sometimes extensively influenced by the old masters and their creation of impressionist images. Her main aim of creating beautiful landscapes is to tell the viewer about the responsibility which needs to be taken knowing that together with time, humans are the most powerful creators and destroyers.
