Godzilla in Miyajima #5
Paul Blenkhorn
Paul Blenkhorn is a Manchester (UK) based artist who has been working in the field of sensory stimulation since the 1980s. Much of this has been developing computer-based systems to visually attract/interact with profoundly disabled children.
He is interested in the light/colour of forms and the objects around them and has developed numerous apps for the earliest learners over the years both in academia (he retired as an Emeritus Professor of Assistive Technology in 2007) and in several disability companies.
More recently this work has expanded into two new areas. The first is abstract, non-representational painting that has been more recently been drifting towards the surreal. Secondly, his computing background is being exploited to explore and create digital works around significant memories from the arts (especially fine art, TV and cinema) travel and other and life experiences. This works use a combination of his scanned abstract paintings, and digital manipulations of either his photographs or "found" images. In many cases these manipulations use his neural style transfer system.
