Victoria Charles

 My name is Victoria Charles, and I am a painter based in the South Hams, Devon. For over twenty years I have worked as an art teacher, a role that has continually shaped and inspired my own creative practice. I live with my husband and our three children, drawing daily inspiration from the remarkable landscapes that surround us.

Working predominantly in oils, and occasionally acrylics, my paintings focus on landscape. I am deeply inspired by the dramatic beauty of the South Hams, from expansive coastal views to quiet rural scenes. Through my work, I seek to evoke a sense of awe and stillness, inviting viewers to pause and reconnect with the natural world.

Colour, texture and expressive brushwork are central to my process, allowing each painting to move beyond representation and capture the atmosphere and emotion of a place. I am particularly interested in how light, weather and seasonal change transform the landscape, creating moments that feel both fleeting and timeless.
