My work is about looking, contemplation and absorbing a sense of time and place and the evocation of fragmented memories and experiences.
Urban environment is my subject matter . Most of my work has emerged from European travel and spending time in the city of London. My intentions are to convey a sense of moving through and around architectural spaces; from interior to exterior and from varying vantage points. The interplay between light and shadow; the highlighting of shape and pattern; the subtlety and drama of colour changes brought about by fluctuating light on surface; these are the components of my work.
I begin from first hand experiences and support my evolving ideas with reference to my drawings and photographs, and most importantly, the strong evocative memories and sensations of my subject. Much of the imagery evolves directly on the canvas as I search out geometry of composition through a process of deconstruction and reconstruction. Colour, light, space and form are at the core of my interest.
Throughout the last two years, my subject matter has been closer to home with my domestic environment and railway stations becoming my challenge. As the world re opens I am looking forward to new travel and new experiences.
