The daughter of a self employed builder and self taught surveyor, I grew up watching my father prepare his work quotes and draw his building plans with pen and ink. I was fascinated by the order and precision of the geometric lines and angles, seeing how they came together to form something far more than the sum of its parts. It was the beginning of my love of creating. After a lengthy career in the legal profession, I began painting and sketching in earnest. Initially, I focussed on landscape oil painting but my heart was in abstraction, always admiring the works of Klee and Kandinsky, and the elegance of art deco design. After inheriting my late father’s draftsman's set, my fascination with structure, precision and geometric shape was reawakened. From my own photographs of urban and architectural forms I began translating my observations into geometric abstractions.
My work currently explores the interplay between order and fluidity, using rigid lines of perspective and circular forms to frame the unpredictable flow of watercolour and contrasting light and colour - perhaps echoing my father’s architectural plans.
