Dreaming of Meadfoot
Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts is a contemporary artist based in Devon. In 2025, she completed her Masters in Fine Art at Falmouth University, graduating with a distinction. Previously, she undertook a year-long mentoring course at the Newlyn School of Art in Cornwall, where she began to formalise her artistic practice.
Emma has always sought inspiration through embodied responses to place, connection, and disconnection. Her artistic practice is rooted in painting, which is often accompanied by three-dimensional manifestations and dioramas of the interplay between imagined figures and feelings. She is fascinated in the perception of preciousness and how it becomes entwined in objects. Holding and touch are often integral to both her making and audience encounter.
Meadfoot Beach in Torquay is central to her as a person and as an artist; her mother has had the same number beach hut for over 50 years and it is where she has literally and metaphorically grown up. Although not always seen, the shape of the rocks and the sweep of the bay frequently appear in her work. Dreaming of Meadfoot is based on the liminal transient experience of one day ending and new one beginning.Oil on Linen
