Oil and Cold Wax on Archival Paper by Geoff Sellick
Calm Waters
Geoff Sellick
I am a designer by profession having spent more than 40 years working in architecture, interiors, and furniture design, I recently started painting in late 2022.
Being a designer constrained by rigid lines and practicality the paintings are a way for me to break free from these restrictions.
Having spent most of my life living between the moors and coast my paintings are inspired by the ever-changing light and colour of the surrounding Devon countryside.
They are painted intuitively, empowering the viewer to interpret their own imagery and stories.
I work on paper applying the oil and cold wax mix, gradually building up layers and textures using rollers, spatulas, and palette knives, then scraping away areas to reveal the colours below. I often like to emphasise and exaggerate colour to give a more uplifting image, sometimes starting with areas of gilding wax to give an additional depth, light and vibrancy.
I have my own gallery in Buckfastleigh and I have exhibited in many Devon galleries and events and I am a key organising member of the annual Ashburton Artists Trail. I have sold to many private individuals throughout the UK, USA and Australia.
