Delamore Artist
Kate Rattray
Working as The Dreaming Lark, Kate Rattray creates art that captures the wild, mythical spirit of Dartmoor. After thirty years as a professional mosaicist, she transitioned to linocut printmaking and collage to explore themes of folklore, animism, and the ancient stories held within the land. Her work begins with the act of walking whilst connecting her to the ancestors who once walked these paths. By sketching and observing in situ, she seeks out sublime and otherworldly experiences on the moors. These field studies become the foundation for her prints, which she occasionally carves and prints outdoors when the weather allows. Kate’s process is deeply physical; using her feet to transfer her images—a "body press" method to continue the act of walking. She also makes paper and inks from foraged plants and stones, deepening this interconnectedness and creating a tangible link between her art and the landscape itself.
