Delamore Artist

Jo Purdue

Jo Purdue creates textured, semi‑abstract landscapes and seascapes using acrylics, oils, and cold wax, a medium that adds depth, softens transitions, and gives her paintings a rich matt finish. Although her work is largely imagined, aiming to evoke mood and atmosphere rather than depict specific places, she finds continual inspiration in the shifting landscapes of Dartmoor and the South West Coast Path. Alongside her painting practice, Jo is passionate about cyanotype printing, a camera‑less early photographic printing process that produces deep blue images, using UV light. She collects flora from her garden and on local walks, always spotting new plants that might create interesting silhouettes. The experimental nature of cyanotypes, especially when she alters the chemistry with vinegar, lemon juice, salt, or turmeric, keeps the process exciting and unpredictable. Jo regularly exhibits her work and takes part in Devon Open Studios..
