"Sue Williamson was born in Oldham, Lancashire in 1952. Moving from her Foundation Course in Rochdale, she went on to study for a degree in Fine Art Sculpture at Bristol Polytechnic from 1971-74, then from 1974-75 at Brighton School of Education to qualify as a teacher of Art and Design.
From 1975-2013 her role as Head of Art and Design at Teignmouth Community School provided a long lasting and fulfilling career, seeing many students go on to have successful careers in the world of art and design.
Since retiring from her profession in 2013, she has embarked on a new career, exploring and developing her own creative abilities. Batik, printmaking and oil painting have been the prime areas of focus, with the latter becoming her major discipline.
Her work is about urban and metropolitan landscape, past and present. It is rooted in the places she chooses to visit in Europe.
Her intention, through the deconstruction, juxtaposition and layering of her subject matter, is to recreate the fragmented memories and sensations of moving through those architectural spaces. The dynamics of the architecture along with the perpetually changing play of light and colour on the array of surfaces she encounters is her continuous challenge.
During the past five years, she has exhibited regularly in the South Devon area ; Teignmouth Galleries, Dartmouth Flavel, Torquay Artizan Gallery, Totnes Birdwood House, Doddiscombeleigh Show, BCAS and Exeter SWAC Open Exhibitions.
