Simple and Elegant
Polly Cazalet’s journey with clay began in her early twenties, inspired by traditional potters she encountered while working on television documentaries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Her passion for ceramics was nurtured under the guidance of esteemed teachers such as Akiko Hirai, Richard Phethean, Joanna Howells, and Mirka Golden-Hann.
Working with porcelain, Polly combines wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques to create pieces that are simple and elegant, often organic in shape. For Polly, the meditative process of making is as significant as the finished work. Her designs reflect a clean, delicate rhythm, with natural forms often influencing her decoration.
She formulates many of her own glazes, employing a soft palette of celadon blues, aqua greens, and greys inspired by the expansive skies surrounding her home in Bulbarrow, Dorset. Polly’s work embodies a quiet harmony, balancing form, function, and nature.
