Artist

Ama Menec

Ama Menec’s natural history sculptures focus primarily on endangered British animals, and those that have made a comeback such as the Wild Boar, Ravens and Moose. Ama also focusses on lesser known or appreciated native British wildlife such as Great Diving Beetles, Adders and Cinnabar Moths, all of which are in need of the good PR brought with depictions in art. There is a story of personal interaction behind each sculpture. Ama is influenced by early 20th century stone carving, particularly Art Deco, the qualities of line and use of negative spaces. Her wall hanging sculptures are often inspired by wood cut and lino print composition combined with architectural stone carving techniques. She has strived for a similar look, by carving back leather hard clay using sharp steel tools, like a softer form of stone carving or engraving.

Exhibition Record

The Kiln Room

Following its highly successful debut in 2025, The Kiln Room returns to Delamore Arts for 2026. Curated by Artizan Collective, this dedicated showcase has quickly become a cornerstone of our programme, offering a specialised look at the vibrant and tactile world of contemporary ceramics. Building on the momentum of its first year, the 2026 exhibition further explores the "dynamic possibilities" of the medium. The Kiln Room serves as a sophisticated companion to the wider Delamore sculpture programme, focusing specifically on the intimate and intricate nature of ceramic art. This year’s curation features an expanded range of work, including: •Functional & Decorative Forms: Exquisite pots and vessels that honour the heritage of utility. •Sculptural Clay: Bold, non-functional works that push the material into the realm of fine art. •Experimental Surfaces: A focus on innovative glazes, raw textures, and the unpredictable "alchemy" of the firing process. Ceramics is a medium defined by the four elements—earth, water, air, and fire. In 2026, we highlight artists who master this ancient dialogue while introducing modern perspectives. From the rhythmic precision of wheel-thrown forms to the organic soulfulness of hand-built pieces, the exhibition demonstrates how clay continues to evolve as a vital medium for contemporary storytelling. The return of The Kiln Room underscores Artizan Collective’s commitment to showcasing the very best of British craft. By providing a dedicated space for ceramic excellence, we invite visitors to move beyond the surface and immerse themselves in the weight, texture, and narrative depth of each piece. Whether you are a seasoned collector of studio pottery or a newcomer to the medium, the 2026 edition of The Kiln Room offers a fresh encounter with the enduring allure of clay.
