Wood is my favourite sculpting material. Each piece of wood is unique and the slow process of carving wood with hand tools is a conversation between the wood, the inspiration and the artist. Being in the studio and feeling the form developing is a quiet, mediative experience. All my sculptures are guided by the qualities of a specific piece of wood, a form in nature or a geometric form. A lifelong love and interest in animals, plants and landscape has been central in my life since childhood and continues to inspire me. Active engagement in sculpture and crafts has always been part of my life. After training as puppeteer and puppet maker in Germany, I studied sculpture at Emerson College in Sussex. Since the early 90’s I am based in Devon with my family. For many years I taught three dimensional arts and crafts to children and teenagers. I am now carving in my Buckfastleigh studio where my woodcarving and whittling workshops are held.

For over a decade, our annual Summer Open has been a cornerstone of the Artizan calendar, bringing an incredible array of artistic talent to the English Riviera. This year, we are shifting our focus to explore a specific narrative dedicated to the unique spirit of our region. Peninsula: The South-West Open 2026 brings together national and local artists responding directly to the physical, cultural, and historic characteristics of the South-West. Grounded in the dramatic landscapes, tactile materials, and the legendary quality of light that defines the peninsula. Join us this summer to experience a visual journey through the South-West, celebrating the landscapes and light that inspire us. The exhibition will launch on 25th July 6 – 8 pm and run from 26th July – 4th September Wednesday – Sunday 10 am – 4 pm or by appointment.
