Oil on Canvas
Wild About Westcombe
Inspired by the beautiful, wild, remote Westcombe Beach, South Hams. With its distinctive cliff ‘pinnacles’. Lively with some impasto surface. Painted mostly with palette knife. Contemporary semi abstract style.
The South Hams has been my home for many years. Some time ago I returned to creating art with renewed vision and energy exploring a vibrant approachto painting. I delight in the flexibility, malleability and rich colour of oil paint, creating mostly seascapes and landscapes in a contemporary style. However, gorgeous bunches of flowers from my garden also provide inspiration.
I enjoy using a palette knife and experimenting with various ways of applying the paint to achieve the desired effect. My work evolves as I constantly strive to capture the essence of my subject. I am passionate about the natural beauty which surrounds us in Devon. The effect of constantly changing light on the sea and land evokes strong emotions which I then attempt to express in my art.
