My name is Eleanor Jenkins, I am a photographer based between Plymouth and Hertfordshire. My practice plays within the realms of social documentary and the sublime essence of place, I am repeatedly drawn back to the process of medium format as it provides an intimate and personal look into my surrounding relationships and the exploration of my mental health.
My series around Molly and Jake started in the summer of 2020. Due to COVID restrictions and living together our lives became extremely interlinked. My exploration of their new relationship often controlled by the constantly changing pandemic guidelines, playing on the idea of home not being necessary a house or location but in each other.
This sense of safety and belonging is continuing to change throughout this pandemic, people have been separated from their families and I hope this project demonstrates how relationships have survived throughout this terrible time and bring the hope of being reunited. It also plays upon my romanticism of other relationships, since being diagnosed with PTSD due to a previous traumatic relationship. I often compare my relationships with others as I struggle with intimacy and don't understand how a normal healthy relationship function.
Throughout the series you see the couple get more comfortable in front of the inquisitive camera with almost performative notions.
