Ashley first started painting in Sunday School many years ago, winning a prize for a miniature seascape. He carried on painting throughout primary and secondary school and gained an Art O Level.
In 1983 he joined the Royal Navy serving 7 years overseas and during the Gulf War. In 1991 Ashley joined the Fire & Rescue Service and served 26 years.
On leaving the Fire Service, Ashley picked up the brushes for the first time in 2017 to reignite his passion for watercolours.
Ashley is now a member of the Torbay Guild of Artists and is inspired by Edward Seago, Edward Wesson, John Yardley, Roland Hilder and Jem Bowden.
