The Funambulist
Ian McConaghy
After a career in architecture, I launched my art practice in 2012, in Bristol working in various mediums and inspired by music, the environment and literature.
Moving back to Devon in 2018, I experimented with digital painting, taking my process in a new direction, and a new subject, exploring mankind’s future. During lockdown, I completed a novel Neuworld about a post-apocalyptic future, with genetic engineering, organic computers and intelligent buildings.
A wall sculpture, Neuworld, inspired by the novel was exhibited at Torre Abbey following Lockdown. Further sculptures in the series have been exhibited at the SWAc Open in 2024 and 2025 and I’m a regular contributor to the Cockington Sculpture Trail, in Torquay.
I also paint and create collage artwork. These works have been exhibited with Artisan in Torquay, Torbay Guild of Artists in the Spanish Barn and Brixham Artists Society at the Scala Hall.
