Kate Lyons Miller
Kate Lyons Miller creates vessels that embody a deep connection to place, inspired by the geology, mineralogy, ecology, and human history of Dartmoor.
Kate incorporates clays and minerals collected during her walks into the surfaces and clay bodies of her vessels, embedding the essence of Dartmoor directly into her work. These inclusions create tactile and visual narratives that map her relationship with the environment.
For Kate, each ceramic piece is "history in the hand," capturing the layers of time and memory held within the earth and offering a tangible connection to the natural world.
This little piece is about this experience, a feeling that someone, possibly malign, is about…..
I have always been drawn to the mark of the makers hand in ceramics, in this piece my fingers gouged through the rough black clay to make the image of a dark place, the immediacy of the marks speaking of fear….
The tiny white porcelain figure is small but potentially strong.
