Stephen specialises in oil paints, which he uses to capture nuances of light, atmosphere and mood throughout the year. His time is split between working outdoors, enplein air, working from life and indoors in the studio. Landscapes are his main subject but nothing can escape his attention, and he will happily paint urban scenes, the coast, figures, animals, portraiture… anything.

He uses traditional age old techniques for each painting, from hand stretching the canvas, or gesso priming the board, through to varnishing the finished picture and hand finishing the frame
