Mary Needham
Mary Needham is a Devon printmaker whose print work involves a variety of complex processes combined, to make layered prints. She is inspired by the colours, shapes and shadows found in the natural world and surrounding countryside of Dartmoor where she lives. Universal patterns and structures found in many animate subjects and their relationships with mathematical sequences, also inform her work.
Her objective is to embody the transient atmosphere rather than a literal representation, produced by layering, thus creating an image which enables the viewer to see past the top layer to what lies 'beyond'. The idea of ‘Looking through’ one layer to reveal another is often present her work.
