Reduction Linocut by Hazel McNab
Polzeath Beach
Hazel McNab
I've always loved colour and pattern and I've found the lino cutting process works well for me as a way to capture my inspiration onto paper. Shadows, reflections, contrasting light and most importantly the composition all make up the story of a good picture.
My work is mostly reduction cut which means I keep cutting away and printing each layer from the same piece of lino. This makes it a limited edition as at the end of the process there is hardly anything left on the lino so no more can be printed. Over the last few years my work has been inspired by the coast of West Cornwall where I am now lucky enough to live. I work from my own photographs taken while I explore the coastal path with my dogs
This piece is made up of 18 printed colours and is my first sunset and largest piece so far.
