Since I began working this challenging material about 25 years ago having been hijacked from ceramics, I now realise it will never let me go.
Kiln fusing is exciting and unpredictable. The possibilities for transforming raw sharp clear glass into fascinating tactile sculptural designs is eternally inspiring. Tedious aching days cutting glass by hand wearing protective gloves, and using hazardous inclusions, requiring me to wear a mask and visor have their rewards. From the kiln emerge new creations, colours and forms that shimmer when light is refracted and reflected through them and cast intriguing rippling shadows. Effects which can be extraordinarily hypnotic.
This is why Art is so good for the soul. It distracts us from the daily routine and transports us into realms of the imagination. My pieces have been described as “Frozen Poetry” and observed that they “Live with the light”.
