There are stories humans tell to describe our place in the world, archetypal figures we draw on to tell these stories. There are also our fragile mammal bodies, in an essential relationship with the natural world.
Mark making can bring together these two realities, internal and external. Marks tell us something of the physicality of the artist, and their experience of a particular time and place, which makes painting and drawing immediate and compelling.
My work draws on mythological and folklore archetypes to tap into the longing we have for connection with the natural world in the industrial age, and to play with the way we romanticise that connection despite the human made climate crisis.
