Copper Plate Etching by Kevin Wright
Millennium Footbridge, Sunset
Kevin Wright
Born and brought up in Torquay, Kevin attended Torquay School of Art and then Newton Abbot College of Art. He is a printmaker and learnt about copper plate etching at Goldsmith's College, University of London and this became his medium of choice.
His work is representational in that the imagery is recognisable to the viewer. His subject matter encompasses the coast, rivers and moorland of Devon and also the buildings and environments of interesting cities such as London and Venice. He works from his print studio in Galmpton, Brixham. His technique is to draw an image onto the copper plate, and use acids to bite tiny trenches into the surface. Ink is rubbed into the trenches and paper placed on top. The plate and paper are then pulled through a press so that the image is transferred from the surface of the copper plate to the surface of the paper.
Kevin has exhibited work widely at a number of venues and galleries in the UK and Europe, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Mall Galleries, the Royal West of England Academy. He is a member of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts; the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and an Associate of the Society for Graphic Fine Art.
