Mixed Media by Annabel Potter
Jellyfish
Annabel Potter
I am based in Exeter and mostly self-taught, starting an art career later in life, after attending workshops. My idea for glass painting was inspired by a craft class and wanting a keepsake of my cats!
I have an Environmental Science degree and my love of the natural world is reflected in my work, painting nature and wildlife using glass painting to create a 3d effect with birds, animals and plants. I also do commissions for pet portrait glass paintings.
Each piece is painted over a few days and I use non-toxic glass paints. The glassware is washable after being heat set.
This year signifies a slight change in direction concentrating on mixed media work, illustrations and only large glassware and vase glass paintings. An animal alphabet colouring book was my most recent project with drawings, mixed media paintings and animal facts.I'm inspired by wildlife and the wonderful colours found in nature. Jellyfish can be so colourful I wanted to paint them, so they can be viewed without being stung!
The Jellyfish are painted with glass paints on the glass frame over an acrylic blue background on paper. This method gives a 3 dimensional look and they also sparkle when lit
