Nothing is clear at the outset but an impulse to explore colour and material reality. There is a dialogue between the work and myself, which drives the work on: Hopefully to a state of discovery. The paintings are not pre designed but are arrived at by a process of searching. Searching for an energy, life, a connection. Something surprising, something natural. Not to a nature just out there but one that is also internal..... and within us all.
