Hooked Reclaimed Fabrics by Rebecca Holley
Dartmoor Off Grid
Rebecca Holley
I have always been interested in art in its many forms, so it was only natural that I should pursue this interest as a career. After completing a 2 year foundation course at Bournville School Of Art, Birmingham, I gained a Fine Art (Sculpture) Degree from Bath College Of Higher Education in 1992.
Later, whilst on a short course of traditional hooked rug making, I realised the combination of design, colour and texture made this a perfect medium through which to express my ideas.
On moving to Devon, I set up a studio in the centre of Exeter, building up a reputation for producing rugs and wallhangings which have a painterly quality and reflect my fine art background. Making each individual rug is a lengthy process, so in addition I began printmaking using various techniques to create more immediate images. I find the contrasting disciplines compliment each other perfectly. In my printmaking, drawing and painting, I like to experiment and use different methods and materials, pushing the boundaries of what is traditionally expected.
My subject matter covers many different themes from Ethnic Art through to the Endocrine System. A number of my works have been on exhibition, some are owned privately, others belong to collections such as DAISI (Devon Arts In Schools Initiative) and @BRISTOL.
I now live in rural Mid Devon and work from home.
My work is available for exhibition and is for sale.Hooked Reclaimed Fabrics
