Dark Wood

I grew up in the North East of England where shipyards, docks and coalmines dominated the landscape of my early working life. That background has had a strong influence on my art. I notice the beauty in gritty, industrial scenes just as much as I notice the splendid coastline of Devon or the sweeping landscapes of Dartmoor - they are all a source of inspiration for me.

My painting style ranges from impressionistic to abstract. Working in oils or acrylics I mainly use a palette knife to layer the paint then scrape back to reveal texture and form. I strive to create depth within my work that conveys the inspiration that compels me to paint.
