Large Naked Raku Bowl with Decorative Wings

My wheelthrown sculptural pots feature hand built organic sections, for stronger, more dynamic forms combining the sculptural with a functional emphasis.  This language of form is expressed in families of stoneware or porcelain works influenced by a whole range of factors, not least visits to the coast, exploring natural phenomena in wood, stone and water.

Vessels are created usually on the wheel and fired in various ways: oxidised in electric kiln, outdoor fired in raku or obvara, according to the type of finish required.

I trained at Birmingham University, Westhill College, in Ceramics for my B. Ed in the 1980s, then did an Art Historical M.A. in Hungarian ceramics in Budapest, plus an M.Ed in Special School Management in 2000.
I have worked with a Japanese ceramicist in Nagoya, central Japan and set up a joint international ceramics pit firing in Lichfield (2009). In 2016, 2017 and 2018, I have been stand builder for Westcountry Potterys' gallery stand at the Contemporary Craft Festival in Bovey Tracey, overseeing the curation of 25 potters' work each time. My work stems from my love of ceramics and enjoyment working with many artists.

I have been Chair of Westcountry Potters Association since 2014, a member of the Midlands Potters Association since 2007 and am an Associate Member of Flameworks Studios, Plymouth.
I have written about potters and ceramicists in the UK, Hungary and Japan for many years.  My work is exhibited at local galleries, shows and online and is in collections in Europe, USA, Australia and Japan. I am happy to accept commissions.
