Stoneware Ceramic by Rebecca and David Holley
Sonia (Delaunay) Cat Canopic Jar
Rebecca and David Holley
Rebecca and David are a wife and husband collaboration working in rural mid Devon. David hand throws the bowls, cat canopic jars and other vessels in stoneware clay. Rebecca individually hand decorates each piece using a variety of experimental pottery techniques, often taking inspiration from her drawings and doodles. Every piece made is a one-off unique creation combining the craftmanship of David’s pottery knowledge and Rebecca’s artistic spontaneity. The surfaces of the work can be gloss or matt, smooth or textured, decorated using underglaze colours, slip, sgraffito and applied clay giving each object its own individual visual and tactile quality.
A collaborative hand decorated ceramic cat, based on the Canopic Jars used by the Ancient Egyptians during the mummification process, to store and preserve the viscera of their owner for the afterlife.
