Black Sail
Galina Zimmatore
I am a local artist based in Torquay, my passion is for seascapes, landscapes and abstract paintings. Living next to the sea I am fascinated by the ever changing seas and skies as well as the beautiful Devon landscape.
I initially trained as an Interior Designer which gave me professional insight into colours and design. Later I did art courses in various styles and subjects including abstracts, portraits, landscapes and palette knife techniques. Most of my pictures are painted in oil or acrylic on canvas using palette knives and brush.
In the mountain lake rests a small black sailboat. But this is no ordinary boat, the captain is a 10 year old boy called Black Jake who hoists the sail and ventures out on his adventures looking for enemy ships and cargo's of gold and treasure. This of course is all in his vivid imagination, but as any 10 year old will tell you the adventures are as real as life itself. This fantasy painting came to me as I thought about the Black Sails TV program full of pirates and excitement on the high seas. How would a child act out his own pirates adventures, maybe with a small black sail boat on a mountain lake.
