Sculpture by Andrea Shearing
Beyond the Far Horizon
I trained in Fine Art and had several one man shows in Edinburgh and exhibited in a Cork St gallery in London after leaving art college. I also undertook a lot of commissions including one for Princes St, Edinburgh.
After 20 years working as a fine artist I was approached by a publisher to devise, write and illustrate children's books. I have 24 international awards and have done many public art projects.
My passion has always been for drawing, painting and sculpture. My focus is on interpreting nature not simply rendering it photographically but I try to embody the symbolic meaning of my chosen subject.
My latest body of work explores free standing, hanging and shaped paintings combining my love of space and colour. These are made out of MDF and painted with acrylic paint. I wanted to challenge the traditional form of rectangular paintings hanging on walls and explore painting in a broader environment so these works as well as hanging on the wall are positioned like sculptures on specially made plinths so you can work round them and view them at different heights.
My work has sold both in UK and internationally. I am committed to delivering high professional standards to my clients whether it is a private commission or to a gallery director. I have been selected for five group exhibitions in London this year and been awarded a funded solo exhibition in London in October 2019 titled H2O as well as winning an international competition for a solo exhibition in Santiago de Compostela in 2020.
