The Great Paignton Paint Out - Legacy Exhibition

Poster image for The Great Paignton Paint Out - Legacy Exhibition submissions

The Great Paignton Paint Out

The Great Paignton Paint Out took place at the end of September 2023 a weekend of outdoor art inspired by plein air tradition, that with the help of ten professional artists, took over the streets and seafront to show off Paignton as a creative town like you’d never seen it before!

Now, we’re bringing together the first legacy exhibition from this incredible community event and showcasing some of the art that was created by you all. Open to artists of all backgrounds and abilities, through the exhibition we’ll continue to celebrate Paignton and welcome works that were captured before, during, and since the weekend of the town, its environment, and its people.

For more information on how to submit, keep reading!

The Great Paignton Paint Out is part of “Wide Open” a programme of activity curated by Filament Works CIC and supported by Tonic Creatives CIC. It is funded as part of Torbay’s Cultural Development Fund, a Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) fund, administered by Arts Council England.

If you produced work at any of The Great Paignton Paint Out events, or you’ve produced artwork connected to Paignton before or since, you can submit it to be part of this exhibition. There’s two strands open for submissions, and you can decide which one is best for you:

Creative

Practicing Artist

Anyone can be a Creative! There are no age restrictions on this category, you do not need to have previous exhibition experience, you just need to have enjoyed creating a piece of work and want to share it.

If you’re a Practicing Artist, you may regularly exhibit your work or sell through online galleries and other platforms. None of this criteria is essential and anyone can identify under this category.

Work will be displayed as NFS (not for sale).

Work will be displayed for sale with a 35% commission fee.

Work can be provided “raw” i.e. it does not need to be framed, mounted or with fixings. You may choose to provide work framed if you wish. “Raw” work will be hung with bulldog clips, or other suitable fixings.

Work will need to meet our standard presentation standards for exhibition:

  • Framed with two points of fixings (preferably d-rings)

  • All canvases that are not deep edged (minimum 3cm) must be framed

  • Glazed works must be behind glass not perspex

All works must be of/connected to Paignton (where works are less representational, we may ask for an explanation about how the work is connected to Paignton)
