Death Trap - An Ingenious Comedy Thriller

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

Due to the unfortunate cancellation of Ladies Day in October, Death Trap becomes the first season play to take to the Little Theatre Stage this year. Spookily, it was the first play cancelled when the first lockdown hit us. Now, the superb set is once again ready for the production to thrill the audience, and how welcome it will be. With a capacity to seat a 240-theatre audience each night, tickets are selling fast.

The play centres on an unknown dramatist, Clifford Anderson, who has sent his new work to award-winning Broadway author Sidney Bruhl for comment – or has he? Sinister goings on ensue when Clifford plots to plagiarise Death Trap, or does the ‘Master’ have other ideas?

Director, Jill Pettigrew says, ‘We are very pleased to have the opportunity to re-stage the thriller Death Trap following its closure in March last year due to the lockdown being imposed. Two of the cast Heidi Pyeburn and Ian Davies remain the same, but they are joined this time by familiar faces Martin Austin and Liz Lee. We also welcome highly regarded and experienced actor– Stephen Andrews – to Toads, in the lead role, Sidney Bruhl. After the roller coaster of the past 12 months, it’s been great to rehearse again and watch the set build take place.’

Written by Ira Levin in 1978, Death Trap has won many awards. It holds the record for the longest running comedy-thriller on Broadway, and has been nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best play. With its plot twists and comedy moments, this play is perfect for spicing up those cold November nights in Torbay.
