Dartmoor Revisited – An Exhibition of New Works

Rosemary will be Artist of the Month throughout July at Wildwood Arts Gallery in Horrabridge, Yelverton where she shall be exhibiting new work entitled ‘Dartmoor Revisited’

A lifetime passion for the natural world made it inevitable that Rosemary should choose to paint the landscape and with Dartmoor on the doorstep the scene was set. Her exploration of the moor since living in Holne has enabled her to become familiar with its uniqueness. She captures fleeting moments with her camera, memorising a point in time to encapsulate it on return to her studio. Although she uses photographs as an aide memoir, she interprets the moor in her own style. Her aim is to share with the viewer her personal experience of place, interpreting it in a painterly manner using oils and acrylics and mixed media embellishments. She uses a range of implements including rollers, palette knives, brushes, rags and of course hands. The light, weather and season all play a part in her choice of subject. Colour is important to her, and she enjoys experimenting with new ways of expressing the essence of the landscape with emphasis on colour.

Dartmoor Revisited has afforded Rosemary the opportunity to paint new subjects, places that she may have passed by and missed on previous occasions as well as reworking locations and settings previously painted using either a different format or a different palette.

The resulting exhibition is a body of large and small works that encompass the full essence of Dartmoor from the wide expansive landscapes, it’s rivers and streams, the historic stone circles and the rich array of wild plants that provide glorious colour to the moor when in season.

Since 2004, Rosemary has exhibited widely across the Southwest, in galleries and in sole, shared and group exhibitions. IN 2018 she was a finalist in the Devon Life Landscape Artist of the Year and her work has been represented in several magazines and newspapers including Devon Life and the Western Morning News

Rosemary will be painting at the gallery on Saturday 2nd July 11 am – 4 pm and invites you to join her to share a glass of wine, have a conversation and watch her work.
