Welcoming Watercolourist Olya Baklan
Artizan are delighted to be hosting Olya Baklan during Devon Open Studios this year. Following on from previous years Olya will be setting up her studio in our basement gallery from where she will work and have on display recent works.
Olya originally from Ukraine, relocated to the UK several years ago where she has exhibited widely. Whilst living in Ukraine she spent many summers in the Crimea and during this time she produced a series of work in response to Russian aggression towards Crimea which were exhibited there. Today her inspiration comes from nature and wildflowers which she refers to as ‘the quiet poetry of rural life’ and hence they are more uplifting and harmonious in their effect on the viewer.
Olya’s exhibition will run alongside our annual sculpture studio show hosted in the upper gallery space. She will be delivering a series of demonstrations on her practice on Tuesday 12th September, Friday 15th and 22nd September, and Saturday 16th and 23rd September. All will start at 2 pm.
Devon Open Studios runs from 9th – 24th September and during this time our opening days will be adjusted to see us opening on a Sunday. Our opening times are 11 am – 5 pm and we shall be closed on the following days: 11th, 13th, 18th and 19th. Olya will be with us in residency until 21st October - contact the gallery for opening times.
