Agatha Comes Home
On the newly transformed harbourside promenade in Torquay, a bronze sculpture now takes pride of place, celebrating one of the world’s best-loved writers, Dame Agatha Christie. Sculpted by Brixham-based artist Elisabeth Hadley, the piece invites you to sit beside Agatha and her beloved dog Peter, as she reflects on nature, storytelling, and her extraordinary life. Commissioned as part of Torbay’s regeneration works, the sculpture was funded through the Torquay Town Deal with support from Torbay Council, Torbay Culture, the Agatha Christie Family, the International Agatha Christie Festival, and Artizan Collective. This public artwork is a tribute from the English Riviera to its most famous daughter - a woman whose stories have captivated millions, and whose legacy is deeply rooted in the coastline and culture of South Devon.
