Making and Applying Terra Sigillata (TS) from Locally Dug and Brick Clays - with Clare Stephens
Explore the ancient technique of making & applying Terra Sigillata using locally dug or brick clays in this hands-on workshop with Clare Stephens. Learn to process wild, natural or brick clay, making TS & applying to a vessel showing the beauty of that clay and linking us to this ancient technique.
Join Clare Stephens to uncover the beauty of working with natural clay through the creation and application of Terra Sigillata (TS). This workshop begins with processing locally dug or brick clay into TS, a technique rooted in history. Participants will learn how to break, sieve, and prepare their clay, with step-by-step guidance to create TS at home.
In the second part, participants will use prepared pottery to apply ready-made TS, learning finishing techniques prior to firing. Pieces will then be fired, waxed. Polished and posted to participants. This workshop bridges tradition and creativity, resulting in a beautifully finished piece.
