The impulse of my work is to challenge, resist and critique societal perceptions of female experience. My work has long explored the idea of bringing woman âcentre-stageâ to depict her as protagonist, to hold her own space. Through my juxtapositions of historical and cultural references, I have been developing a hybrid, global visual language of the female figure over many years. I make use of found images/appropriations from art histories, prehistory, world cultures and the esoteric. As a woman ages she is rendered invisible. I wonder what that means for a woman artist therefore I strive for my work to be visible.
