My obsession with Africa and its peoples has triggered several tranches of work. I was much attracted to the extraordinary creativity of the tribes on the Ethiopian/Kenyan border where mankind first emerged, who create daily fashion out of the flowers and foliage of their environment, painting their bodies with the coloured clays of their land. Currently, I have been investigating tribal belief systems to explore the peoplesâ closeness to the natural world, referencing the spirit animals they resonate with. I work in oil paint but vary the styles I use to suit the subject.
