Elin Hughes

Originally from North Wales, Elin Hughes creates wood and gas fired pottery at Kigbeare Studios on the edge of Dartmoor. Her wheel thrown functional pots in stoneware and porcelain are decorated with various slips and scratched patterns. Woodfired work is fired in the Kigbeare anagama kiln - an arduous process that involves a team of six potters to feed the kiln continuously for five days to reach 1300c, building up layers of ash and colour. Combining soft forms with repetitive patterns her pots impart a sense of comfort, warmth and intimacy. Elin’s interest in atmospheric firing has led her to work with potters in Sweden, Denmark and Germany as well as more recently to undertake an 18-month woodfiring apprenticeship in the US. In 2023 she collaborated with luxury fragrance company Molton Brown and her work has been exhibited at London Craft Week, Collect Art Fair and Dover Street Market, London.
