Inspired by the Natural World
Stefania D’Amico is an artist whose work is rooted in a love of mark-making, with the sgraffito process providing a tactile and visual connection to lino printing and pen-and-ink drawing. Her art is deeply influenced by wildlife, nature, and the landscapes surrounding her home near the Tamar Valley and Dartmoor, where prehistoric sites and legends inspire her storytelling.
Monochrome plays a significant role in Stefania’s work, as she uses layered two-dimensional panels to create three-dimensional narratives rich with shadow and structure. These panels evoke the playful storytelling of pop-up books from her childhood, weaving together imagery of her garden, the structure of trees, and reflections on the River Tamar.
Through her art, Stefania captures the essence of her environment, blending the natural world with the myths and history of the landscapes she calls home
