Imogen Taylor-Noble

Sustainable Connections

Imogen Taylor-Noble is a ceramicist with a socially engaged practice, using clay to explore what it means to be a maker during a climate emergency. Her work investigates found and foraged materials alongside wood-firing practices, challenging traditional commercial ceramics models by emphasizing sustainable connections with the environment.

Imogen has built and operates wood-fired kilns, one located in a coppice and another fueled by waste wood. Striving for minimal environmental impact, she avoids using pristine extracted minerals and has developed a range of glazes made from waste materials destined for landfill. This innovative approach aligns with her commitment to sustainability.

Working in series, Imogen allows the evolution of materials and processes to guide her practice, fostering continual learning and discovery. Her ceramics reflect a thoughtful dialogue with nature, celebrating the beauty of imperfection and the possibilities of sustainable making.
