Cherry Lyons

Cherry Lyons is inspired by the colours and textures of the South West coast and landscapes, using a variety of media: oils, watercolours, acrylics, pastels, printmaking and encaustic.

Cherry's newest work explores the ancient art of encaustic (from the Greek meaning 'to heat or burn in') wax used decoratively for over 2000 years. She researched deeply this challenging process involving melting beeswax and damar resin creating a molten medium for painting, fusing pigmented layers with intense heat. Her garden studio sometimes resembles a science lab - often found, with blow torch in hand creating an encaustic, looking like an extra from a Star Wars movie!
