Velocity

I am an observer, a people watcher using my time as an artist to record how human behaviour and perceptions are changing during my lifetime. My current work is essentially focused on how as humans we entertain ourselves, focusing on personal and shared experiences of how we spend our leisure time.

To some of this I use the approach of using satire and take an almost sarcastic approach to both mine and others behaviour. I believe we are conditioned to perceive what is now seen as ‘normal’ concepts of entertainment, compared to the past and future concepts of what it is to be entertained.

Through my paintings I am exploring the effect of entertainment on social issues such as plastic pollution, climate issues, particularly those driven by human choices, and I particularly think about how these changes have a lasting legacy for the generations to come.

Inspired by artist son near the end of first lockdown. The lockdown was eased and I was back to work but not off homeschooling duty. I struggled to meet expectations as wife/mother/office worker and teacher. Jasper was largely ignored and in the painting he felt out of reach with time speeding past.
