Claire Harmer
Based in Torbay, Claire is a qualified teacher in Art & Design and makes her own work whilst out in situ and back at her home in the kitchen.
Claire studied under Liverpool John Moores University, Greenwich University and The Learning Connexion, Wellington, New Zealand.
During a year spent in New Zealand, Claire was inspired and took opportunities to paint landscapes in oils. She has now found a comforting familiarity to NZ in the views around Torbay.
Growing up, Claire would see her late Grandfather's landscapes on family home walls. This colourful approach to landscape has become inherent in her own work. Claire starts each process with sketches or photographs before she realises her ideas on canvas or board. In this recent work, Claire is taking more risks and in doing so becoming more spontaneous with attention given to colour, layering and mark making
Thatcher Rock and Orestone Rock. Claire Harmer imagines the view from Hayes Road over the rooftops down to the Bay. She uses colourful experimentation with mixed media, base painting in acrylic, layered with splodges of spray paint, thick oil pastel, thin washes and pen.
